In a particularly good time for greeting-titled singles, Erykah Badu
has followed Adele with the release of a stellar new song, “Hello.” The
44-year-old artist recruited Andre 3000 for the track.
A great track from two artists whose careers have always radiated their unique creativity. Two beautiful Black people, always interesting, honest, trend setting fashion icons, that have each given us some great music. A romantic union years ago, parents to a son, and now here, coming together again to bring us an awesome rendition of a 'Hello' song.
Notice how over the lyrics and melody of one of the Isley Brothers' loveliest hits, they've woven their own past memories and awakened ours. Current technology and Andre's thought-provoking rap intertwines these memories with issues lovers face today ~cellphone privacy and trust.
Talented Chris Brown's reputation was severely tainted, and he was introduced to years of legal problems following an altercation that supposedly began when Rihanna became infuriated over a text message he received from another woman.
On a deeper note, I was reminded of how even years after certain of our love affairs have ended, out of that gaping black hole that swallows up the love we feel and have given, a thought can come wafting back up into our consciousness, that though it may be 'over', is it truly finished and complete?
Enjoy the music and your memories...lovu,
Kendke

A cut off of Badu’s new mixtape But You Cain’t Use My Phone, “Hello” follows the theme of telephones. Putting her own spin on The Isley Brothers’ “Hello It’s Me,” Badu croons, “Hello, it’s me, it’s me, baby / I thought about us for a long, long time / Maybe I think too much but something’s wrong / Something that said it doesn’t last too long, too long / Maybe I shouldn’t think of you as mine, mine, mine, mine, mine.”
The collaboration is a rare new release from the two famed performers. But You Cain’t Use My Phone is Badu’s first full-length collection since 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). Andre 3000, meanwhile, has jumped on one-off singles in recent years, but counts his last full-length studio album as the 2003 Outkast record, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Take a listen to “Hello” above.
Thanks for that, beloved Kendke ... Real nice and very original .
